Cedar treating and maintenance planning
Routine treating: Cedar roofs often need periodic cleaning and treatment. A common planning range is every five to seven years, depending on exposure, shade, debris, slope, and roof condition.
Antimicrobial treatment: Treating should address biological growth, not just appearance. The roof needs to be evaluated for moss, algae, mildew, and moisture-retaining debris.
Sealer: A cedar treatment program may include a protective sealer to help manage water absorption and weathering.
Inspection first: Split shakes, loose fasteners, failed flashings, excessive cupping, and soft or rotted material should be evaluated before any maintenance treatment is recommended.
